The Utica Resource Center for Independent Living is looking for volunteers to help with this year's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

"I'm looking for as many people as would like to do this, because it's on a part-time basis," Director of Development, Diana Sorrento, said. "Some people can only come in for a couple of hours and some people can come in for longer."

Sorrento said for eight years, the program has helped people making less than $50,000 get the most from their tax filing.

"What we're focusing on is getting the credit returns for people that they're due, and we really take that opportunity to make sure that people get what they're eligible for," Sorrento said. "And part of that is the Earned Income Tax Credit."

Those hoping to join the program will receive free IRS-certified online training and certification to prepare simple returns.

Last year, the program prepared about 2,700 returns, totaling $2.4 million for the community.
