Sauquoit Man Arrested for Possessing Untaxed Cash and Cigarettes
Following the execution of a search warrant a Sauquoit man has been arrested on multiple felony tax fraud charges.
Multiple agencies conducted a month long investigation into 62-year-old Richard E. McCauley. Early Thursday morning New York State Police executed the search warrant at McCauley's residence in the Town of Paris. As a result authorities located and seized an assortment of untaxed tobacco products and untaxed cash.
According to State Police, McCauley was allegedly in possession of 139 cartons of untaxed, unstamped cigarettes, assorted untaxed tobacco products, and over $20,000.00 in US currency. McCauley was charged with a violation of NYS Tax Law Section 1814 C1, Felony Possession and Transportation of Unstamped, Untaxed Cigarettes, violation of NYS Tax Law Section 1803, and Felony Criminal Tax Fraud in the 4th Degree.
The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance will be taking possession of the untaxed cigarettes and tobacco products.
