Utica, NY (WIBX) - The government may look to force airlines to refund baggage fees for lost luggage.

According to an Associated Press report, baggage fees can run you anywhere fro $15 to $50, and if your bag is lost, forever or just for a few days, those fees are not returned to passengers who have landed at their destination with no change of clothes or toiletries.

Airlines generate a combined $3.3 billion dollars a year in baggage fees. However, last year, more than 2 million bags didn't arrive on the same flight with their owner, according to the report.

Some airlines do offer credits for future travel, the report said.
