The State Department of Transportation is announcing the permanent closing of a section of Sunset Avenue in Utica.  The section of Sunset Ave. in Utica between Lincoln and the arterial will be closed permanently beginning Tuesday September 24th to begin work on a new pedestrian bridge.

The east side of Sunset Ave. will be closed to arterial access including pedestrian traffic for the entire intersection. The west side of Sunset Ave. will have access to the arterial southbound only.

The DOT says the existing traffic light will be removed and detours will direct drivers and pedestrians to the Warren Street intersection.

The DOT wants to remind drivers that fines for speeding in work zones are doubled.
