The YWCA Mohawk Valley is kicking off a public awareness campaign to mark October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Diane Stancato, the Executive Director of the YWCA, says they're committed to ending domestic violence.

Stancato says in the first six months of the year, the YWCA's Crisis Services Program received over 1,200 hotline calls and responded to more than 1,100 cases of domestic abuse.

The hotline number in Oneida County is 797-770 and 866-4120 in Herkimer County.

The YWCA also provides 24 hour crisis intervention and advocacy for domestic violence victims.
