ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — A 69-year-old western New York family physician faces federal charges after prosecutors say he had thousands of images of child pornography on a laptop, camera and memory drives.

Dr. David Blasczak appeared in federal court in Rochester Friday morning and waived his right to a detention hearing.

Blasczak has been in custody since he was arrested Jan. 18 and charged with buying child pornography online. Prosecutors say he also took explicit photos of young patients at his office in the Wayne County town of Clyde and paid their parents, saying the photos were for "research."

The criminal complaint says Blasczak also admitted touching and photographing his daughter's friends during sleepovers.

Blasczak doesn't yet have an attorney to comment. The judge gave him more time to secure one on Friday.
