It's a first at Griffiss International Airport in Rome.

NUAIR Alliance says Aurora Flight Sciences successfully flew multiple unmanned test flights of the company's Centaur aircraft from Griffiss.

The test flights marked the first time a large scale, fixed wing aircraft has flown at any of the six FAA-designated unmanned aircraft test sites in the U.S.

Larry Brinker, Executive Director of NUAIR, says the test flights mark a significant step forward in helping establish New York and the Mohawk Valley as the national leader in UAS testing and development.

The test flights took place from June 12th to June 15th. Aurora's test brought six members of its team to the area for 20 days, creating more than $20,000 in direct economic impact for the region.
