Senator Joseph Griffo was honored today in a ceremony at the Maynard Volunteer Fire Department for his efforts in helping firefighters in Oneida County and across New York State.

Griffo was presented with the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs Presidential Achievement Award.

The award was established in 2015 and is intended to recognize special achievements that benefit the fire service.

Griffo was instrumental in passage of the New York State Volunteer Firefighters Cap Coverage Cancer Disabilities Benefit Act.

Griffo was also recognized by the Oneida County Volunteer Firemen's Association for securing $15,000 in funding to purchase firefighting gear and for working to obtain additional grants for fire prevention efforts.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs and the Oneida County Volunteer Firemen's Association,” Griffo said. “I will continue to advocate for and fight to ensure that these brave men and women get the equipment, gear and other protections that they need.

October is Fire Awareness and Prevention Month.
