A support groups for those affected by heroin and opiates will begin meeting in Utica tomorrow night, January 8th 2015.

The group, for those who have lost family members or loved ones to addiction or addiction-related events will meet Thursdays from 6:00pm to 7:00pm in Suite 401 on the fourth floor of the Center for Family Life and Recovery, located at 502 Court Street in Utica, New York.

The program is being run in conjunction with the Oneida County Heroin / Opiate Task Force.

According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's 2013 National Survey on Drug Use and Health: Summary of National Findings (NSDUH Series H-48, HHS Publication No. (SMA) 14-4863. Rockville, MD: Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2014) it is estimated that in 2013 approximately 169,000 people aged twelve years or older reported using heroin for the first time that year.

Most drug experts agree that the number of first-time users is, unfortunately, expected to increase over the next few years.
