Utica, NY (WIBX) - The recent Colorado movie theater massacre, and Sunday's mass shooting at a Wisconsin Sikh temple, has some New York lawmakers calling for stricter gun control laws.  State Senator Michael Gianaris says he's working on a package of bills aimed at limiting the number of guns that can be purchased a month, and Senator Chuck Schumer, who recently offered a gun control amendment to the Senate cybersecurity bill, says his goal is to have rational laws on guns, that would dictate whether an average person has the right to bear arms. The measure would also limit the purchase of high capacity gun magazines for some consumers.

We asked local residents to share their thoughts on the nation adopting stricter gun laws and here's what some of you had to say:

President Obama says he intends to consult community, police and religious leaders, to examine additional ways to reduce random acts of violence, but declined to comment on his administration taking up any new gun control measures following the mass shootings that left 19 people dead.
