NY State Police Pursue I-81 Driver Into Pennsylvania

A driver faces several charges after she was pursued by state police on Interstate 81 from Kirkwood to Great Bend.

Authorities say 37-year-old Barbara Vazquez of the Bronx was arrested shortly after noon on Wednesday.

According to New York State Police, a trooper tried to stop Vazquez after he observed her using a phone while driving.

Police say the driver would not pull over. The vehicle continued driving south at about 55 miles per hour. The pursuit lasted about five miles until Vazquez stopped in Susquehanna County.

A search of the vehicle turned up cocaine, marijuana and part of a marijuana cigarette.

Vazquez was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana. She also was cited for several traffic violations.

Vazquez was arraigned in Kirkwood town court. She was released without bail being required.
