Washington, DC (WIBX) - Senator Charles Schumer and Congressman Bill Owens have introduced legislation to ensure that counties are reimbursed for lost property tax revenue from land taken into trust by the federal government on behalf of Native American tribes in New York.

Schumer and Owens say local taxpayers should not be forced to foot the bill for millions of dollars in lost property taxes and their bill aims to make sure it doesn't happen.

Schumer says the land into trust process has serious flaws that need to be confronted head-on.

The law would apply to any land taken into trust after October 1st of 2008.
