Utica, NY (WIBX) - The 2011 New York Special Olympics Summer games are taking place in Utica this weekend.

Opening ceremonies will be held tonight from 8:00 to 10:00 at Gaetano Stadium at Utica College.

Competition in several sports, including basketball, bowling and gymnastics, will take place all day Saturday at eight different venues throughout the Utica area.

Over 1,500 athletes and nearly 2,000 volunteers are taking part in the games.
