The State Senate Joint Task Force on Heroin and Opioid Addiction has issued its final report and recommendations following a series of hearings held across the state.

Senator James Seward was a member of the task force.

He says the heroin epidemic is not only a problem in big cities, but in rural areas as well.

Seward says the report includes a comprehensive package of bills that target treatment, prevention and law enforcement issues raised during the hearings.

One of the bills sponsored by Seward would improve access to insurance coverage for substance abuse treatment and dependency services.
