Vermont Warning Motorists Of Moose On The Road

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is warning motorists to beware of moose on the state's roadways.

Wildlife experts say moose are more likely to be crossing roadways, especially after dark or early in the morning as they move from wintering areas to spring feeding locations.

Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Louis Porter says motorists hit 63 moose on Vermont highways last year. Since 1985, 19 people have died in motor vehicle collisions with moose on Vermont highways.

While more moose are hit by motorists in the spring, there is another peak of activity in September and October, during breeding season.
