Harness racing resumes this weekend at Vernon Downs despite an outbreak of equine herpes that cancelled racing last weekend.

Jeff Gural, CEO of American Racing and Entertainment, joined WIBX First News with Keeler in the Morning Friday to discuss what caused the virus's spread and what is being done to protect other horses.

''This is rare. The horses in question shipped up from Florida, sometimes on a long ship, its not uncommon for the horses immune system to weaken...', Gural said.

''This particular virus is not transferable to humans. The horses are quarantined in a barn so they're not with the other horses.''

In addition to racing, Gural says they're offering a special Mother's Day buffet.
