Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Utica Police Department's Facebook page turns one tomorrow.

According to Sargeant Steve Hauck, 34 people have been arrested by the UPD after receiving information from other Facebook users.

Hauck also says the page provides a much needed outlet for community involvement.

"This allows us to get our message out, and what's important to us," Hauck said. "Whether it's a door hanger program, or to just maybe highlight some of the things we're doing within the community. It's just, it's us. It's police officers talking directly to people, so to speak. And getting that direct interaction, which we never really had an outlet for that."

In the future, the UPD hopes to use Facebook to stream live video and create a more active user experience with the group.
