Senator James Seward is reacting to State Education Commissioner John King's decision to cancel four public forums on the implementation of the Common Core learning platform.

Seward says King should immediately reverse his decision and re-scheduled public meetings across the state to gather comment and solicit opinion on the state's rollout of the Common Core standards.

He says the commissioner's cancellation of the planned events, citing the influence of special interests, is an insult to parents, students and educators who are working through the sea of change in modern curricula and testing.

Seward says they wish to offer honest insights into the effects of Common Core and assessments on students and local school districts and the commissioner should want to hear from them.
