Vermont Towns Selling School Houses As Part Of Consolidation

VICTORY, Vt. (AP) — Two small Vermont towns are going to be selling their unused one-room school houses as part of the process of becoming part of a larger school district.

Later this month voters in the town of Victory will be asked to allow the Victory Town School District to sell the last remaining one-room schoolhouse, which was abandoned years ago.

The Caledonian Record reports that to become part of the new Northeast Kingdom Choice School District, the 10 non-operating school districts joining the new district cannot own property.

Essex Caledonia Supervisory Union Superintendent Michael Clark says that both Victory and neighboring Granby must sell their school houses.

Granby Town Clerk Nellie Noble says voters in that town will probably hold a vote on selling the school in March.
