Vernon Man Facing DWI Charges After Accident

A Vernon man is facing various DWI charges after allegedly losing control of his car on Peterboro Road near Arquint Road.

Troopers were tipped off to Walter Schmidt's condition while investigating the accident which took place on Friday night.  Schmidt was driving a 2000 Lincoln Continental and lost control while rounding a curve, striking a metal road marker.

Based on the way he was speaking, Schmidt was taken to state police barracks where troopers say he was determined to be under the influence of drugs and / or alcohol.

Schmidt was issued several traffic tickets and released.  He will face the charges in court in February.
