A woman is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery following an accident involving a steel storage container.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says a PODS box fell off of a truck and onto a 38-year old Florida woman.  Her name has not yet been released, however authorities say she is listed in critical condition at Upstate University Medical Center in Syracuse.

The incident took place at 4490 Steelway Boulevard South in Liverpool, New York at approximately 2:45pm on Thursday, December 11, 2014.  The location is that of Syracuse Moving and Storage Centers, the PODS location for Liverpool.

Moyers Corners Fire Department Chief John Perkins says the steel container was lifted just before emergency personnel arrived by a worker operating a forklift.  The victim was slid out from underneath where the steel bin had fallen.  He says that Nova Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The victim was unresponsive and traumatic when they arrived.  Perkins says that it was because of the typical, "...good relationship the two organizations have that we were able to effectively take care of her and get her transported to the hospital."

Authorities are still investigating.

Officials from PODS have not yet had an opportunity to respond to our request for a comment.
